goats and the matterhorn

I have been bad with my blogging updates so I thought I would post some non-wedding related pictures - yes I do shoot things other than weddings! Here are some fun pics of when Tucker and I were in Switzerland last month.
On one hike we wandered into a herd of mountain goats, who tolerated my ecstatic camera clicking for a few minutes before gracefully hoping over the to next mountain.

The Matterhorn is one of my favorite mountains (not to mention the backdrop to where I got engaged). So naturally I had to photograph it from every angle with every possible cloud formation.

gillian & bernhard

Gillian hailed from the Caribbean and Bernhard had come all the way from Austria, but as the maid of honor said in her speech, the first time she saw them together, she knew it was meant to be! So everyone from both sides of the Atlantic came together to celebrate. It was great fun and I was even able to break out my German much to everyone's amusement. Congratulations Gillian and Bernhard - you make such a wonderful couple!

I just love this picture of Gillian at the Monaco Hotel.

This was the sweetest father-daughter dance! I dont think there was a dry eye in the room after they finished!

WE ARE ENGAGED!!

Five years in the making and here we are engaged! I still cant believe it. Tucker proposed in complete Tucker style - it was perfect.
It happened during our vacation in Switzerland on one of those rare days were there was sun at the top of the mountain so we decided to jump on the train to get to top of the Goernergrat for the full mountain and glacier view. Tucker, apparently not satisfied that this was perfect enough, nonchalantly mentioned we should hike out through the snow to the next peak, which was decorated with towering cairns to get away from the viewing platform. My mind was on how great the photographs would be from there and I whole heartedly agreed.

We had the peak completely to ourselves and after I had my fill of running around and taking pictures we dangled our feet over the precipice and ate our delicious broetchen with alpine cheese that mysteriously snuck their way into our backpacks during breakfast. While I was admiring the view Tucker, in complete stealth mode, placed the ring on a minuscule rock ledge that looked down a complete vertical drop of several hundred feet (see the tip of the red arrow! Crazy, I know!)

I of course did not notice a thing. Tucker was growing increasingly nervous that I might accidentally kick the ring into oblivion or worse, the gathering crowd of crows who were eyeing the shiny prize would carry it off to decorate their nest. I am not sure which would have been the worst case scenario, but either way I would have been a complete nervous wreck if it were me and Tucker just looked like he was as calm as could be. Here is a crow eyeing the ring.

Finally after discussing vertigo and looking down a lot (hint hint), I finally spotted the ring. Not knowing about an imminent proposal I just naturally assumed some poor lady lost her ring, and how LUCKY we found it for her. I got all excited and told Tucker we should bring it to the lost and found as soon as we got down the mountain. This was obviously not quite the reaction he hoped for, so he took the ring put it on my finger and asked me if I would marry him. Still a little shocked and dumbfounded I think I asked him twice just to make sure, upon which I became all teary eyed and said "of course!!!!!!" Here I am with a big dopey grin and teary eyes flashing my promise ring (Tucker decided he would play it safe and we will pick out 'the ring' together - smart man!) There is a another long story about the ring but I wont get into it here, but a lot of thought went into it, so he received some major kudos.

Being the nerdy, now engaged, couple we of course took pictures to commemorate to occasion.

And last but not least, this was the great view we had. We sat on the small rock ledge you see peeking out on the right-hand corner.

We were just able to tell the news to my parents yesterday, since we wanted to do it in person and they were off traveling the world (see where I get it from!) and I am so excited I can finally post it! Its hard to keep something like this quiet - whew!

lexa and robbie

I love it when brides cant stop smiling all day! Lexa and Robbie's happiness and excitement was just so contagious, you couldn't help but get caught up in the moment. Their family and friends were so supportive and had a great time (lakeside and ice cream - thats all I need to say!) Plus, you know if the moms rock the dance floor that you have a good time going. Congrats to Lexa and Robbie!

Gorgeous bride - enough said!

I think they were picking confetti out of their hair way into the night.

PS - If you made it this far check back in the next few days for BIG NEWS!!!!!

Bettmeralp, Switzerland

Another blurb about the alpine get-away...
Tucker and I went to a little village named Bettmeralp, which is only accessible via a Gondola or very strong legs. We arrived there about 9PM in pouring rain hoping to find a place to stay (it was impossible to get a reservation somewhere online quoting that everything was booked). It so happened that it was still the low-season for the village and therefore everything was actually closed, save a small restaurant with some rooms, which we gratefully accepted. We soon found out this was the way to travel. We hiked and hiked and saw NO ONE .. well that is unless you count the cows. We had unimpeded views of the Aletschgletscher (usually packed with hikers), crazy weather and yummy apple strudel. Yes.. we were spoiled!

Here is Tucker posing by the entrance of the town.

I loved this church - even though it has the smallest windows for the greatest view!

The alpine cows all have these massive bells so that the farmers can find them in the mountains once the grazing season is over to bring them back down in the valleys. It was so magical with the fog rolling in and you could hear the bells echoing off the mountains. Then all of a sudden you would basically run into the cows since the fog was so thick. Here is one sniffing us out for some yummy tidbits.

Here is the view approaching the Aletschgletscher.

Just to give you a scale of how big it is - the first image was from the top of the mountain and here we are down in the valley still a little way off and you can see Tucker hopping along the ridge line on the bottom right.

katie & graham

Happy 7/7/07 everyone! Since this day is a record holder for weddings I thought it would be high time to update my blog with some wedding images. Introducing Katie and Graham, the sweetest couple with a classy DC wedding. With a dress made in Spain, the ceremony at the timeless DAR, and friends ready to celebrate, this couple was off to a great start! Congrats Katie and Graham!

The ugly doll was really there to make the ring bearer happy, so I decided the ugly doll should have the honor of "holding" the rings well!

The gorgeous bride!

And this would be the ring bearer! Funny how kids always steal the show!

The first dance under a moonlit DC sky...
