Jungfraujoch -Switzerland

Tucker and I decided our first day in Switzerland should be in the foothills of the Alps, where you start out your hike in a green valley and end up surrounded by snow on the "Top of Europe" (literally what the end station is called). We went a little crazy and decided to do it in true swiss fashion by combining the gondola, train and hiking.

This is the valley from the Maennlichen mountain where we got to by a combo of a train, gondola (you can see a tiny one on the right hand side of the image) and hiking. This is where you hike around the mountain and the view opens up to the first tall mountains of the alps. At the end of the hike you can catch the train up to the Jungfraujoch, since you cant climb up there. The train tunnel is actually burrowed through 2.5 mountains and took 17 years to build. Its an incredible feat of engineering considering it was built in 1894. It also performs the incredible feat of emptying your wallet when you buy the ticket to get up there.

This is the view from the Sphinx Observatory, which makes the steep price you paid to get up there worthwhile. You can see far into the alps and the beginning of the Aletschgletscher, the longest glacier in Europe.

Here you can see the Sphinx observatory perched on top of the massive mountain. We decided to brave to crazy weather and do the snow hike around which goes between the valley of two peaks.

The Swiss love their "ice palaces" which basically is a tunnel system built either into the snow or glacier with artists coming in and building the craziest ice sculptures. Well as luck would have it Tucker just LOVES anything underground so we just had to explore EVERY tunnel we came across (even if coming across meant a 1/2 hour detour). It was fun to run around under the snow.

Here we are in front of the Jungfrau mountain.

The Scherer Family

It was wonderful having four generations of Scherer's together to celebrate my Opa's Birthday. He entered his 90'th year with grace, style, alot of fanfare and copious amounts of coffee and cake. We spent 5 days together in the Odenwald region. We caught up on each other's lives, hiked (my Grandparents can keep going and going), laughed, and ate the before mentioned copious amounts of coffee and cake. My Grandparents are such wonderful people, always ready to see the positive in life no matter what hardships they had to endure. They have been together for over 70 years and are still as much in love as when they first meet.

My wonderful Grandparents walking in style!

My mom working her hat ..

My niece Sofia stole the show!

The whole family...

Here are some pictures I took when I was still minorly jet-lagged and thought it would be a great idea to get up at 4;30 AM for a little hike.

And last but not least my dad with his parents.

Due to the amount of pictures I took I will just post them as I get through them. So look for some fun new additions from the Alps in the next two weeks.

Traveling about

I will be out of the country until June 21st, celebrating my Grandfather's 90th Birthday (yay - go Opa!) and hiking in the Alps until I have killer calves with my better half! I will most likely not be checking my email or posting on the blog, but I will get back to any inquiries upon my return! Come back at the end of June for some great new pictures!
the route...

Mindy & Stefan

Due to a major time crunch before my trip, I wasn't going to post anything new BUT just could not resist putting up some of my favs of Mindy and Stefan's awesome wedding. What started off as a muggy day just promising to end up in major thunderstorm was in fact just perfect in every way! Mindy and Stefan were so cute and up for anything that they were even nice enough to hop on a carousel (Stefan was very kind to humor me and get on a white horse with little stars painted it - I promise its very manly!). Their friends and family were so supportive and just ready for a good time - which was also partially due to the amount of mojitos being served. So without further ado here are some pictures of the great event. Congratulations Mindy and Stefan (and Mia).

I bet you were wondering who Mia was - here she is just as happy as can be that her two human friends are finally tying the knot!

Here they are on the carousel - note that Stefan is on a big dog here and not the white starry horse!

Porters was where Mindy and Stefan first met!

No time left - off to the ceremony.

There ceremony was held in the sculpture house of the AVAM where they normally hold their larger pieces. It was such a funky space and I just loved the frog on the top tier residing over the whole ceremony.

High fives were in order after the ceremony.

The first hug from mom after the ceremony!

Alright - I need to give a shout out to the people who made it happen - the event ran so smoothly thanks to Jen from How Sweet It Is Events, the caterer (Sascha's) and the florist (Crimson and Clover)just completely outdid themselves, making the space just absolutely fabulous.

The cake was incredible - Charm City cakes makes the most innovative and fun cakes. This is an exact replica of Stefan and Mindy's house, the Prius (I didnt include their license plate number - but it was accurate!), themselves on the stoop with Mia.

The first dance with the dip (which according to the best man was quite a daring move for Stefan - it certainly paid off!)
